‘Bout to get deep up in here…..

It’s the week of Thanksgiving and I want to throw everything out there that I am thankful for.  Too often in life we don’t appreciate things, or we choose to accentuate the negative aspects of our surroundings.  Not often enough are we satisfied with what we have- instead we seem obsessed with what we don’t.
First and foremost, I’m thankful for my family.  Family is the most  important asset you will ever possess, and they should be the deciding factor in every decision you make in life.

I’m thankful that I don’t live in an area where a bunch of lunatics kill each other, riot, and loot their own city because of something that has no direct effect on their lives.  People come out of the woodwork when something terrible happens, just to serve their own agendas.
I’m thankful for the ability to provide my family with a safe environment.  Through hard work, I’m able to live in an area where you don’t have to worry about getting jumped by a gang, or have to watch out for a drive by shooting.

I’m thankful for the knowledge that making excuses and blaming other people for my shortcomings is a waste of time.  That I’m in control of my life, and I don’t need to deflect my failures onto something, or someone, else.
I’m thankful for the friends in my life.  As time wears on, life happens and you lose touch with many of them,  but they are never that far away.  It’s important to make the effort to stay in contact with as many as you can.

I’m thankful for the hobbies in my life that keep me sane.  Whether it’s watching sports, playing fantasy football, listening to music, watching movies, or having a few drinks to let loose, I’m thankful for the ability to take part in those activities.
I’m thankful that my favorite sports team, the Baltimore Ravens, are always in the running for the postseason.  170 wins, 134 losses, one tie, and two Super Bowl trophies makes for a very successful franchise.  I thoroughly enjoy watching them every Sunday.

I’m thankful for the ability to spend time with my extended family on Thanksgiving. I’m thankful that it will honestly be a good time, and that I enjoy their company.  I’ve seen first hand how some families flat-out just don’t like each other and it’s hardly an enjoyable environment to spend a holiday.

I’m thankful for my DVR.  What a great invention, as I’m able to condense three hours of shows into an hour and a half.  I’m able to watch a show at four in the morning if I want.  Before I would just miss out on the show completely.  I’m just saying.

Most importantly I’m thankful for the time I have here in this life.  How I get to enjoy things like my kids growing up, the companionship of my friends, and the love of my wife.  I’m thankful to have seen what I have seen, experience what I’ve experienced, and have the memories to cherish for the rest of my life.  I’ve swam in two oceans, rolled craps at the Bellagio in Vegas, and witnessed the miracle of birth twice.  It’s all been awesome and I’m thankful for what’s still to come.

I hope everyone out there has a Happy Thanksgiving.  Please take a second to remember what it’s really about…football and over eating!  Kidding- dammit.
