Look, I get it that Pearce is versatile in the field and is a great club house guy. I like him, and the Orioles like him, both players and front office. But if the O’s think they’re getting a .300 hitter for the rest of the year, their out of their minds. This is just such a classic O’s move that makes me want to throw my phone across the room. I realize there’s a ton of catching depth in the organization, but the fact that we gave up a prospect for a bench player when we have just about zero prospects to give up makes me shake my head. Steve Pearce is basically Nolan Reimold with less speed, but who can also play first or second. Except we don’t need a back up first or second baseman, so that’s irrelevant. Haven’t heard the corresponding move on the 40 man roster, but I can’t imagine anyone other than Reimold being DFA’d. We can’t have two of the exact same player.
