45,000 fans packed into the home of the New York Mets, Citi Field, Tuesday night for the 2013 All Star Game. They made sure to be there on time too, as their own superstar Matt Harvey, had the honor of starting the game for the National League. Harvey didn’t disappoint either, giving up only 1 hit in two innings of work.

In what was a pitchers duel of an All Star Game, the AL all-stars were able to crack open the scoreless game with a run off of a Jose Bautista sac fly in the in the 4th. In the 5th Adam Jones Kept things going with a leadoff double. Jones would later come home to score on JJ Hardy fielder’s choice, pushing the AL lead to 2-0, which is where the score would stand until the top of the 8th when the AL would add-on one more insurance run to the lead. Manny Machado kept being Manny along they way, making a  spectacular defensive play on a ball hit down the line in the 7th. Manny is quickly become famous for making these tough plays look routine.

Citi Field had an extra feel of electricity Tuesday night in the bottom of the 8th inning, as the soon to be retired Mariano Rivera entered the game.  AL, NL, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, it didn’t matter. The fans were on their feet and the players cleared the field to let Mo stand alone in the spotlight. A respect he’s earned from all. Not only for his great career as possibly the greatest closer of all time, but more importantly because of his class, attitude, and character.  Mariano performed, with a flawless inning as you might expect.  Neither team scored in the 9th and the MVP award went to Rivera. Hats off to you tonight Mariano, but when we see you  down the stretch of the pennant race there won’t be any love lost. You are still a Yankee, but thanks for helping lock up home field advantage for the Orioles’ World Series trip. Much appreciated.
