Adam Jones Representing Orioles at Home Run Derby

It’s nice to see three Orioles make the all-star game. How Matt Wieters won the starting catching spot for the AL baffles me as he’s missed most of the season, but hey, good for him and his elbow.  Adam Jones and Nelson Cruz will also be representing Baltimore at the mid-summer classic. Nelson Cruz declined to participate in the Home Run Derby for fear that it might mess up his swing.  Adam Jones doesn’t think it will be an issue and will step up to the plate for the Dinger Derby.

Does participating in the home run derby mess up your swing? Who really knows? If you ask Chris Davis, whose red-hot start was cooled down last season after participating in the HR derby,  he’d probably tell you to stay away. But Davis’ post-derby, year-long, slump doesn’t solidify an answer. If Cruz thinks the derby will mess up his swing then I’m glad he is choosing to stay away. But if Adam doesn’t think that it will be an issue, than it’s not an issue. I’m excited to see what Adam can do and I’m glad that Baltimore still has a horse in the home run race with Jones. Jones is an absolute stud who doesn’t get the national credit he deserves, I would love to see him win the dinger Derby. Pitch selection isn’t his strong suit though. It will be interesting to see if Adam takes a pitch or two here, or if he takes his chances at the first ten pitches he sees.

Popeye’s will be in da house….
